I have a Private Pilot (glider self launch) lic. (not current). I would like to get my Sport pilot lic. for single eng. land. (to fly a Remos GX).I meet the medical requirements of a Sport Pilot lic. What to I have to do to be legal ? No one at three FBOs here in central Texas (who have LSA for rent and instruction) seem to have an answer. One FBO operator even asked some FAA people from San Antonio this question and they did not know either. I seem to be in a area where I can not get a Sport Pilot Lic. please help?

Ok this is an easy one. I have been through this a number of times.
Simply you have to be trained by one CFI1 and take a proficiency check with another CFI2 per FAR Title 14 Part 61.321 to add a new category. No brainer.
This is explained in more detail at http://sport-pilot-training.com/add-category-pilot-certificate/
Then you have to become a current pilot per 61.56 with the new category ( or you could become current with the old category before) and you are good to go.
If you reference these regulations there should be no question as to what YOU NEED TO DO to get legal (and be safe). If you have any problems accomplishing this come and see me personally and I can do this for you.

If you go to the top right you will see the sport pilot locator. Click on this to find the nearest instructor. Sometimes the nearest instructor is not the best. Look around and use my check out the section in the web site giving you advice on choosing the best instructor for you.
